EMDR Therapy Edmonton
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a truly amazing tool that helps people process difficult or overwhelming experiences so they no longer feel as emotionally charged. Using rapid eye movements or bilateral tapping, EMDR helps your brain “file” charged feelings or memories and change the feelings or physical reactions that are attached to the incidents. You do not have to have a specific event or memory in mind, nor do you have to talk about the traumatic event in therapy.
EMDR supports your nervous system in healing from the inside out, helping you feel calmer and more in control. Thousands upon thousands of research studies prove EMDR works.
What is Act?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT can help you recognize where you are in your life, and instead of fighting against difficult thoughts and emotions, you learn to make space for them while still connected to your values, needs and goals.
somatic therapy edmonton
The brain-body connection - Somatic Therapy
Ever wonder why a therapist says, “Where do you feel that in your body?”
Our brain and our body are connected. Research has shown that many autoimmune diseases are much more prevalent in those who hold onto stress and trauma. Teaching ourselves to listen to our bodies is an important part of the healing process. Past stress and traumatic experiences can often show up in our bodies through migraines, tightness, heaviness, intestinal issues, chronic pain and restlessness. By using gentle awareness, grounding, breath, or movement, somatic therapy helps release stored tension and build a deeper sense of safety and connection within yourself.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
DBT teaches practical skills for managing intense emotions, staying grounded in the present, navigating stress, and improving communication. These tools help you respond to challenges with more clarity and stability.
Narrative Therapy
Narrative therapy helps you explore the stories you’ve been told—or have told yourself—about who you are. By separating yourself from the problem and rewriting limiting narratives, you can step into a more empowered and compassionate understanding of your life.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps you notice unhelpful thought patterns and replace them with more balanced, realistic ones. It’s structured, practical, and focused on what you can shift right now to feel better.
Committed to Ongoing Learning
I’m dedicated to continually growing as a therapist, so I can better help the clients that I see. I pursue ongoing training, consultation/mentorship, and education to ensure the support I offer is current, compassionate, and grounded in best practices. My goal is to show up with the skills, insight, and care you deserve — always learning, always evolving.
FAQ
What can I expect at the first visit?
I will book our first session for about 80 minutes, during this time I will complete an intake with you so I can better understand why you have come to therapy, what your goals are and we can work on a plan.
Rates, Insurance & Sliding Scale Options
A regular session is 50 minutes long, and my current rate is $160/hr.
I am currently working on putting direct billing in place.
Many insurance companies will accept a receipt for a "counsellor or therapist" that is certified by a regulatory body such as the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). Please check your extended benefits for more information.
If you are facing financial hardship, please contact me. I take on a limited number of sliding-scale clients.
My Education & Experience
I hold three degrees, which I have completed over the last few decades between working and raising a family.
I have a Bachelor of Arts, with a dual major in Psychology and Anthropology. A Bachelor of Social Work and a Master of Counselling in Counselling Psychology.
I worked on all three of these degrees while working and raising a family as part of a military family. I have worked in a variety of environments, that has shaped my current experience.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
Currently, I only offer video and telephone counselling. I maintain a small case load to ensure that I can provide consistent and high-quality care to my clients while also looking after my own needs. I offer a reduced rate for those in need, so this does impact my ability to rent out an in-person therapy space. This allows you to access support from the comfort of your own home, with flexibility and privacy.
Free Initial Consultation
The most important part of choosing a therapist is feeling a connection with them. It is part of my practice to offer a consult session so we can meet informally to discuss your immediate needs, but to ensure that you feel safe sharing the most intimate details of your life with me. If you present with an issue that I do not have experience in, I can potentially refer you to a therapist who does.
